  • I believe each person has their own story and special messages to share.

Beyond pursuing excellence in flute performing, music allows the opportunity to develop our whole being. Through music, we foster confidence in oneself, practice kindness towards ourselves and others, and continually develop our abilities to listen and communicate

Growing up, I was a very shy student and always kept to myself. I joined 5th grade band and fell in love with playing the flute and making music with my peers. It was so fun to figure out all of the songs I loved listening to and being a part of the ensemble. As I continued on in school, band became my favorite class and I joined every musical opportunity like jazz band, marching band, pit orchestra, and Solo & Ensemble. Soon, I found myself being at school from 6am to as late as 11pm making as much music as possible! It was incredible to be part of the musical community and I made many friends in various ensembles.

Playing the flute gave me the confidence to express myself even when I didn’t have words and allowed me to connect with many people–many of whom have become life long friends.

Lessons are a collaboration between the student and teacher. Lessons are a safe space for students to dare to be bold! While we work hard to achieve technical excellence and perform with utmost respect to the original compositions, I encourage students to prioritize expressing their own musical messages. Practicing fundamentals and establishing a good foundation of beautiful tone and efficient technique are the building blocks for musical excellence and artistry.

Since musical practice is often immeasurable, it is important to have weekly attainable goals as well as broader long term goals to help students celebrate their progress in their musical journey and plan for the exciting road ahead. In this studio, we value progress over perfection. Through musical opportunities such as two studio recitals a year, students are able to share their own work and musical messages in solo performances and work together with accompanists and other students in ensemble performances. As a teacher, I want to help students achieve their individual goals and tailor lessons to suit individual needs be it pursuing a career in music or discovering new ways of expression

Testimonials

"My favorite part of taking lessons here is being able to accomplish goals I never thought would be possible! My amazing teacher Ms. Rachel has inspired me to always keep trying even if the results may be slow to come. She has helped me with my confidence in my flute playing and has encouraged me to believe in myself through every audition, competition, and concert!"

— Former student, Ellie

“I was originally sold just on Rachel's undeniable skill level, long time dedication to her craft, and her spirit of competitiveness. I received so much more value. She was attentive to my personal goals and never lost sight of them even when I had forgotten them… She was relentless in her studies and practice; so her array of learning tools that she brings every day makes her vast knowledge accessible for all types of learners.”
